Petroleum jelly is a semi solid mixture of hydrocarbons (with carbon numbers, generally higher than 25). White Petroleum Jelly is a completely purified mixture of semi solid hydrocarbons obtained by product of petroleum refining, and wholly decolorized. It may contain a suitable antioxidant. After petroleum jelly became a medicine chest staple, consumer began to use it for cosmetic purposes and for many ailments including toenail fungus, genital rashes(non-STD), nosebleeds, diaper rash, and common colds. It is generally used in cosmetic skin care (where is often loosely referred to as mineral oil).
